Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has urged the youth to form and register credible groups if they are to benefit from the government’s youth livelihood programs.
According to Ms. Among, the government has set aside a lot of money under various programs aimed at uplifting the livelihoods of youth and other vulnerable groups such as women but the funds remain under-utilized because the intended beneficiaries are not organized.
“I implore you all to put politics aside and form developmental groups and Saccos if you are to fully benefit from the different development government programs,” she said.
The Speaker of Parliament made the remarks while meeting different savings and youth groups from Kamuli, Budiope, and Buyende districts on Sunday, 10th September.
On Thursday, September 7, 2023, Ms. Among sent the House on recess, urging all legislators to utilize the 20 days to monitor the implementation of government programs.
At the Sunday function, which took place in Budiope East Constituency at the invitation of area MP Moses Magogo, Ms Among donated Shs50M to different youth groups and Saccos.
“I urge you all group leaders to use this money for the intended purpose, and call upon you all to report all those who misuse and swindle these funds for individual benefit, to the authorities,” she said.
Ms. Among is re-echoing President Museveni’s wealth creation message where he has been urging the youth and other Ugandans to get organized and benefit from government livelihood programs such as Youth Livelihood Fund (YLF), NAADS, Microfinance Fund, Emyooga and Parish Development Model (PDM).
Under PDM, which is the latest program, the government is giving out at least Shs100m to each of the 10,694 parishes every financial year as a revolving fund, aimed at supporting nearly 39 percent of households from subsistence economy to commercial production.
