Speaker to meet with the opposition Leadership over suspension of opposition members

Members of the opposition led by the the shadow minister for information and communication doubling as the Mityana woman representative in parliament, Hon. Joyce Bagala insist that parliament should discuss matters of the abducted Ugandans despite the suspension given to the five legislators yesterday.
The deputy speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa suspended five members of the opposition, Joyce Bagala, Betty Namboze, Kabuye Frank, Derrick Nyeko, and Francis Zaake over indiscipline and these are set to miss three sittings.

However Mityana woman member of Parliament Joyce Bagala says that there are several pressing issues, especially in line with human rights that parliament must discuss whether these members are suspended or not

“For me like I told you yesterday, I think suspending members of parliament isn’t as important as handling issues that affect Ugandans who are stressed with the economy, Ugandans who are stressed with human rights abuse, and those stressed because their relatives have been abducted.” She stressed.

Today the leadership of Parliament led by the deputy speaker, the leader of government, and the government chief whip are expected to discuss the matter of the suspended legislators in a special meeting which will be chaired by the deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa over the incident.
