The deputy speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has vowed to personally follow up the case of a Police Officer,Thomas Otim accused of raping a one years-old baby, after accusations of corruption by the Resident State Attorney in Arua, who had ordered closure of the file for lack of sufficient evidence.
Despite a medical report indicating evidence of sexual penetration allegedly committed by Otim, He was set free a few days ago.
"This is a very appalling situation, but even when the situation is bad like that, we have to ensure that we remain within the confines in the law, Parliament can’t direct the DPP in the execution of his or her mandate but the only thing we can do is to ask to follow up the matter because it is a very absurd thing," Thomas Tayebwa.
"But we are the ones who gave the DPP powers so we can only report to the DPP the matter and request the DPP to take up the matter. I can promise that personally, I am going to follow up on this matter within the law so that we don’t appear like we are directing the DPP."- Tayebwa.

The victim was immediately enrolled on post-exposure prophylaxis. She is pleading for justice in this case because the suspect has been at large since the crime occurred with no action taken.
She said, “This suffering is too much to take any longer, and seeing the offender roaming around every day with nothing being done, I simply pray for justice in this matter.
