The driver is on the run as more investigations continue.

Kananura also updated the country on their ongoing operations against boda boda riders who violate the road and safety rules.

“for the period of last one week, the directorate of traffic and road safety across the country impounded 1533 motorcycles on various offences and out of these 846 were riding without licences, 488 were without crush helmets, 52 were in poor state or dangerous mechanical conditions, 31 were carrying more than one passenger and 116 were impounded on other offences.” Said Kananura

He further noted some of the bad characters exhibited on the roads while edging closer to the Xmas festive season a number of which included over speeding, increase in traffic on the roads both human and vehicles, inexperienced drivers accessing the roads, poor mechanical conditions vehicles, carrying of excess passengers, driving under the influence of alcohol among others.

It’s from this context, that he highlighted on some of the initiatives and operations that are to be introduced to curb such traffic rules offenders during this festive season.

“the following interventions will continue to be carried out to curb the indiscipline on the roads as we approach the festive season; activating all the fika salama checkpoints and speeding zones which will be manned all through. On these checkpoints all drivers of passenger service motor vehicles especially the bus drivers will be tested for alcohol. It has already begun and some have been arrested and found drunk.” He said.

“ we shall also have increased motorised road patrols inform of vehicles and motorcycles and we shall also strengthen operations on speeding using the already deployed speed guards and CCTV cameras.” He added
