Police arrests 45 suspects during Nyegenyege festival.

 


Police have released a report regarding the just concluded Nyegenyege festival that took place from 9th – 12th at the Source of the Nile in Jinja, an event that attracted over 1000 people from within and outside the country.

Speaking today at their weekly security presser in Naguru, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga revealed how their team successfully managed the event including that of the busoga royal dinner.

"we want to inform the public that both the Nyegenyege festival and the Royal dinner that took place in Busoga region ended peacefully despite the security alerts and scares by the US Embassy and the British high Commission.” Said Enanga.


Enanga however, confirmed the arrest of some culprits by their officers especially those who were involved in phone snatching among other criminal cases while at the event.

"There were just few incidents which were reported to police like 20 cases of theft of mobile phones, 3 cases of impersonation of security and organisers, minor fire outbreaks 5, being in possession of Marijuana 3, 1 case of stealing a motor vehicle, and being in possession of false tickets 12. Atotal of 45 suspects were arrested, 10 were issued police bond, 35 arrangements are being made to have them arraigned in court.” Said the spokesperson

Police have also come out to applaude all the fans and well wishers who attended the event, for their high levels of vigilance exercised during the festival.

"to the organisers, we thank them for the huge amount of efforts done into preparing for these events, our security measures were well felt by ofcouse the suspected hostile elements who wanted to disrupt it and even to some of the countries that were actually worried. At the end of the day we secured the event successfully.” He further revealed.
