UNEB dismisses claims of error in the just concluded Exams.

  Jenifer Kalule - UNEB spokesperson

As the Uganda National Examination Board(UNEB) finalises the entire examinations exercise this week, the board has urged all school heads and students to disregard any false information suggesting errors in any of their just concluded examinations.

UNEB made the remarks basing on a false statement that went viral on social media last week, notifying that the physics paper had errors and candidates will be forced to repeat it.

The fake statement on social media

Speaking about the incident at the weekly security presser in Naguru today, the UNEB public relations officer Jenifer Kalule Musamba trashed the claims saying it’s from wrong source.

“please note that the board doesn’t primarily use social media to communicate to the schools. When communicating to the schools, the board uses circulars sent directly or through the portal accessed by the schools. Although such information may at times find it’s way on social media platforms, it’s not our official mode of communication to schools.” Said Jenifer

According to UNEB, all the test items for the board’s examination papers passed through a rigorous validity test and as such, No such errors were experienced in regards to any of the examination papers.

“we here by reiterate that UNEB conducts valid, reliable, equitable and quality assessment of learners’ achievement in a Professional and innovative manner, for the award of internationally recognised certificates.” Kalule said

It’s from this context that she came out to warn all the citizens to beware of such fraudsters who only aim at serving their vested interests.

“We further would like to caution the public against any other such misleading information. We have come to learn that the authors of such fake announcements are scheming to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public under the pre-text of assisting them. Please be informed that the UCE examination ended successfully, and that the board is already handling the next processes and the field conduct of the examination.” She said

Kalule further disclosed that their teams are closely working around the clock with the Uganda police force to investigate and establish the source of this false information, where culprits will be brought to book.

She also gave an update on the preparations being done to kick-start the marking exercise of the Just concluded examinations of S.4 and P.7.

“the process of marking both UCE and PLE scripts has commenced in our coordination centres. The scripts have been sorted for transfer to the various marking centres. We have a total of 33 marking centres, of which 13 will be used for marking PLE scripts, while 20 are for marking UCE and UACE examinations.” Jenifer said

About 6,000 examiners have been invited for marking at PLE level, while 8,000 have been contracted to mark the UCE examination. The first set of the results which is PLE, is expected to be released during the 3rd week of January 2024.
