UNEB to arraign 10 suspects in court over malpractice.

The Uganda national examination board(UNEB) has revealed that 10 suspects will be arraigned in Nabweru court to answer to charges of destroying examination material and unauthorised possession of a UNEB examination paper and material. 

According to UNEB, the suspects were apprehended from His Grace primary school in Kyebando and are currently held at Kyebando police station.

Speaking at a media briefing in Naguru, the spokesperson of UNEB Jennifer Kalule Musamba said, the incident happened between the School head and their invigilators during science paper.

"It's alleged that the director/ Head teacher of the school Mr. Bakka David connived with the chief invigilator Mr. kairu Gerrard and a UNEB scout Lwanga Brian to cut the examination security envelope for science that had been delivered for that centre.” Said kalule

Its upon this context, that she warned against malpractice during the entire examination exercise to avoid being apprehended by their security teams.

"Once again, we would like to caution candidates, all those involved in the conduct of of the examination, as well as members of the general public against involvement in any form of examination malpractice.” She revealed

Regarding the just concluded Primary leaving examination, kalule expressed her gratitude towards the successful conduct of the examination through out the period.

"Overall, we had a successful conduct of the P.L.E last week. The weather was fairly conducive, but even where we had rains on Day 1, the examination papers were delivered on time and candidates were able to write their examination in time.” She noted

She further applauded the efforts rendered to them by the different government entities that include the police during the examinations.

"the board would like to commend the devoted field and security personnel that were involved in the conduct of the examination, for their commitment in the successful conduct of P.L.E. In a special way, we wish to appreciate the local government authorities for the tremendous support rendered to the board.” Said the spokesperson 

Jennifer also assured the general public that no cases of leakages or exposure of any examination paper to the candidates has been reported so far except provision of external assistance as well as attempts to destroy the security envelopes.

She also commended members of the general public for their support in ensuring that the examinations are peacefully done right from day one.

"We thank members of the public for being vigilant and always reporting suspected cases of mulpractice either to police or UNEB. We also commend the police and our security teams for the quick response. Our toll free line incase of any whistle blowers reports is 0800-111-427

In addition, she also updated the country on the ongoing Uganda advanced certificate of education(UACE) exams that have officially kicked off today.

"Today candidates of UACE have begun writing their examination papers, starting with History for arts students and mathematics for science candidates. Over the weekend the board was able to effectively deliver all the examination scripts to the respective stations, despite the challenges of rain and flooding of some roads in some parts of the country.” She said

The UACE candidature currently stands at 110,569 registered candidates as compared to 97,889 last year, which indicates a percentage increase of 12.4%.
