What Happened To The 4B Shillings Which Was Collected By NRM To Build Its Movement House?

It has been almost 14 Years since the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Promised to erect a momentum structure after accumulating over Shs4b of the shs30b required for the Project.

        WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.

In July 2012, President Museveni re-energized the NRM party buoyancy with a colorful launch of a fundraising ceremony for the movement House, raising over ss2bn from 400 excited members in a matter of hours.

The money was raised at a dinner organized by the NRM finance commission which by then was led by treasurer Amelia Kyambadde, who was also by then the minister for Trade.

During that event, President Museveni introduced Account No.0121152263500 at the Housing Finance Bank in memory of the decisive attack on the Kabamba Army barracks in 1984 in which youthful revolutionaries led by Yoweri Museveni turned a chapter in Uganda history to usher in peace and development after decades of war.

According to the NRM's plan, the Movement house would be a 27-story building to symbolize the 27 armed men who ran over the barracks.
In 2012, this structure would mark 27 years of NRM party rule in 2013 but unfortunately, this was not possible. Not even a foundation level was put up besides the collection of the 4bn shillings.

Upon investigating this story, we discovered that by August 2012, the account had accumulated two billion shillings in private contributions, to top up the 4bn which was collected from the party members. In total, over 6bn was collected in less than 2 months.

According to their budget, the NRM secretariat needed shs 30bn for the movement House that could constitute conference facilities, Shopping complexes, Roof gardens, theaters, and also host the NRM offices. it was also revealed that this would have been the tallest building on completion in the two years.

This plan has remained unaccomplished and this has created many questions in the public, most especially after the National Unity Platform party, a young party unveiled a headquarters a few days ago.

The whereabouts of the contributions remain a big question, was the funds swindled? Could NRM be planning to build a better one? did it give up on the project? all questions remain unanswered
