1 dead as fire guts City House building in Kampala



Fire has this morning gutted City House building which shelters the offices of the opposition political party, DP including dozens of all kinds of businesses.

According to the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan area Luke owoyesigyire the incident happened at around 9am and one person has so far been confirmed dead.

“Today, at approximately 9 am, a devastating fire erupted at City House in Kampala, resulting in one confirmed fatality. The deceased individual has yet to be identified, and the body has been transported to the City Mortuary Mulago for a thorough postmortem examination.” said Owoyesigyire 

“We express heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.” he added

He also disclosed that the fire has successfully been put out through tireless efforts from the fire prevention and rescue services team as more search for casualties continue.

“concerns remain about the possibility of additional casualties within the remnants of the building. The dedicated team at Central Police Station Kampala is actively working to verify if there are other bodies still trapped inside.” Said Owoyesigyire

Police say, an immediate investigation has been initiated to determine the precise cause of the fire, where the findings will be later unveiled to members of the general public.

However, citizens most especially the victims have been urged to follow the set guidelines being issued by their team at this trying moment.

“We kindly request the cooperation of the public during this challenging time as we are yet to open up the roads adjacent to the crime scene. The building itself is not safe for occupancy and will be closed off until further notice. We will provide further information as it becomes available.” He further revealed
