Security heightened ahead of Xmas celebrations.

   Fred Enanga - Police Spokesperson

The joint security agencies have heightened security across the country ahead of the much anticipated Christmas day celebrations slated for next week on Monday. This was revealed by the police spokesperson Fred Enanga during their weekly security briefing at their headquarters today.

“As observed across the country our joint security teams both armed and non armed are already patrolling mapped out areas to ensure peace, safety and security for Ugandans and visitors one week to Christmas.” Said the police spokesperson

According to Enanga the visibility being exhibited and other road policing measures that includes snap checks, stop and search operations are part of the comprehensive security measures that have been put in place by the government security agencies.

“You are aware that there is a threatening environment that still exists in the country, but we are continuing to regularly review our level of preparedness, assessment of threats and vulnerabilities towards Christmas and the new year.” Enanga asserted

In addition, Enanga says the joint intelligence components from CMI, ISO, crime intelligence among others, are continuing to profile all major and significant installations in all venues, including hot spots that are a potential risk, noting that their security posture currently present is very sufficient.

“All our standby teams mobile spots that we have, we have advanced teams in place, our 999 patrols including the intergrated highway patrols and motorcycle squad are already in place.” He said

He further disclosed some of the mitigation measures they are going to use during the festive season in the bid to curb drivers that fail to adhere to the road safety rules.

“We have an effective mixture of CCTV technology which captures the number plates of vehicles and the images of drivers especially those undisciplined drivers and may be vehicles suspected of being involved in crime.” He revealed

He however, urged all owners of CCTV cameras to always alert the police incase of any captured dangerous images on their private CCTV cameras including sharing of their footage with the security agencies to ensure the safety of all the citizens at large during the Xmas season.

“We want to assure the public that we remain committed to working with all other stakeholders to ensure a very successful festive season.” the spokesperson further revealed
