R.t Hon. Anita Among - speaker of parliament
The speaker of parliament R.t Honourable Annet Anita Among has adjourned their scheduled meeting with the officials from the Uganda Human rights Commission to a later date.
This comes after the chairperson of Uganda Human rights Commission Mariam Wangadya, turned up for the meeting without the commissioners, who she claimed had travelled to Mbarara for some hearings.
The meeting had been scheduled between the speaker of parliament R.t Hon. Anita Among and the leader of opposition in parliament Hon. Mathias Mpuuga plus the directors of the Uganda Human rights Commission, over the alleged human rights abuses by the government security agencies.
Speaking to members of the press today, the leader of opposition Hon. Mathias Mpuuga said today’s situation won’t shift their attention from the human rights regulatory body regardless of the decision to extend.
“The fact that the speaker assured her and myself that the meeting will take place this week, iam patient enough i know what am dealing with, so a mere adjustment of a date. If she hadn’t turned up, that would be different but the fact that she’s turned up to me it keeps the matters active and warm. I cannot be really discouraged by a change of date. We are in hot pursuit of these matters and nobody is going to run away.” Said the leader of opposition
“All these are issues of accountability for violations of rights by persons obliged to respect and keep law and order.” He added
The speaker rescheduled the meeting for a later date yet to be clarified before the end of this week, where she instructed the chairperson to go and consult from her team when the meeting should take place.
