UPC calls for intensified fight against corruption.

The leadership of Uganda people’s Congress (UPC) has called upon all Ugandans regardless of their affiliation, to join efforts with government in the bid to defeat the war against corruption in public offices around the country.

On 9th December 2023, Uganda joined the rest of the world in commemorating the 20th anniversary of the international Anti-corruption day under the theme, “strengthening partnerships in the war against corruption.”

It’s upon this theme, that UPC’s head of media and communications Muzeyi Faizo, disclosed how it’s an obligation for each and every Ugandan citizen in this war which has hindered the country’s development due to embezzlement of the public funds.

“Upc is calling upon the state, government officials, civil servants, law enforcement officers, media fraternity, private sector, civil society, academia, public and youths to form enduring partnerships that stand up against corruption. Let us all be agents of anti-corruption crusade.” Said faizo

He attributes the high rate of poor service delivery in the country to corrupt officials who continue to divert funds intended for a useful cause to their own vested interests hence leaving the public to suffer.

“Our physical infrastructure especially roads are in a poor shape which is an indicator that corruption may have been behind poor workmanship. Our health system is lacking better and functioning facilities, medical staff is insufficient, drugs are in scarcity and health for all at an affordable cost is still a pipe dream! Education each day is becoming an expensive commodity right from pre-primary, primary, secondary and college/university. All these gaps in service delivery are greatly attributed to corruption that should be squarely fought with a Political Goodwill.” Said Faizo

Faizo however thinks, with the revival of the police special branch by the government some of the challenges could be overcomed if the branch is allowed to duely execute it’s duties without any interference from from external forces.

“UPC is therefore very much concerned that corruption may derail our efforts of achieving vision 2030 that is based on sustainable development goals (SDGs). With the revival of police special branch, UPC is hopeful that more of such information may get available on time and well analysed if it is allowed to execute it’s mandatory duties.” He said

According to the inspector of government’s office in the last two financial years, they have investigated and concluded 27 high cases of grand and syndicate corruption allegations in government institutions. Additionally, 1342 other corruption cases were investigated and concluded, with 174 being in MDAs while 1168 were in local governments.

At the same juncture, UPC also eulogized the demise of their gallant sons, Comrade Charles Oduka who passed away last Sunday 10th December 2023 in London as well as Comrade Alex Oryang sono who has been a Lecturer at Lira University Teaching Hospital.

“Charles has all along been on frontline in advancing the cause of the Party. Even when there is limited hope, he has been one of the inspirational and symbols of UPC diaspora politics that reaches out to the rest across the globe and Uganda. For instance, in 2006 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, he left his base in London to get fully involved in the UPC campaign trail. “said Muzeyi Faizo

Inregards to the demise of Alex Oryang, Faisal said he was a special asset to UPC and Uganda as well as a key facilitator during the Uhuru celebrations and their founding father, Dr. Apolo Milton memorial Lectures, adding that it’s a great loss of such a personality well advanced in the ideology and history of UPC and Uganda.
