2 suspects arrested for robbing passengers along Kampala - Masaka highway

Territorial police in greater Masaka in conjunction with the flying squad unit apprehended two suspects over allegations of kidnapping and robbing passengers along the Kampala – Masaka highway.

According to the police spokesperson Fred Enanga the suspects had been disguising with a non licensed vehicle registration No.UBA 259W, a Toyota drone grey in colour without the blue and white stripes.

The suspects apprehended include Kigozi Sulaiman aged 25 who is a tax driver from Nabbingo Kakungubwe in Wakiso district and Nsubuga Derrick a 30 year old conductor of Wantoni, Masajja B village in Makindye division

“they would put the passengers on knife points and other weapons then rob and nab them in the near by bushes.” Enanga narrated

He says their joint team carried out the intelligence led operation on 27th of last week. Upon blacklisting the vehicle it was eventually identified in Masaka city. when they tried halting the suspected vehicle they instead resorted to a car-chase

“Our team engaged in the car-chase with them which started from Masaka through kyojja swamp up to Kinoni in Lwengo district where they were connerd and arrested.” Enanga revealed

Upon further interrogations, police also revealed that the two suspects had been disguising as crime intelligence and CMI operatives from Kampala

Enanga further cautioned the passengers on the highways especially the Kampala – Masaka highway against boarding such non licensed public vehicles without the blue and white stripes on them.

“they are also advised to avoid boarding such kinds of taxis from non gazetted taxi stages. The police leadership has thanked the police in greater Masaka and flying squad unit for this outstanding peace of work.” Enanga stated
