The KMP territorial team has dismissed four police officers from Kabalagala police station in disgrace, charging them with aggravated robbery.
The accused officers, DC Among Phiona, 28, DC Angula Isaac, 27, DC Baluku Shafik, 26, and DC Galenda Bernard, are now facing legal consequences after allegedly turning against a Kenyan businessman, Muhammad Olad Abdirahman, aged 37.
On January 17, 2024, Abdirahman sought accommodation at the Royal View Hotel Buziga and approached the manager for assistance in identifying the best forex with a favorable exchange rate for his USD 30,000, intended for purchasing a lorry.
The hotel management, tipped off by DC Among, collaborated with three other officers and Okello, posing as a foreign exchange broker and the hotel manager, to arrest the victims.
Around 4 pm, the officers allegedly bundled the victims into a vehicle, drove them through Kabalagala barracks road, and took them to another hotel garden. There, they robbed the victims of their USD 30,000 and forced them away. The victims, narrating their ordeal to a Kenyan friend, reported the case.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the four officers, and a search at their homes uncovered additional dollars, duly documented as evidence. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend Okello and the hotel manager.
The disgraceful actions of these officers have eroded trust within the community, staining the reputation of the police force. However, authorities assure that accountability will be upheld, emphasizing the commitment of the majority of officers who serve Ugandans with pride and integrity to maintain the safety of the country.
