Police in Kampala metropolitan south in conjunction with the flying squad unit, have intercepted and arrested the driver of a Land Cruiser registration number UAZ 801Y for allegedly being in possession of stolen cattle.
According to the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala metropolitan area Luke owoyesigyire, the Flying Squad carried out the operation following a tip off from the residents who had developed some suspicions about the said suspect.
“In the early hours of the morning at Kutano Nakawuka Road in Rubaga Division , the team, vigilant and prepared, engaged the vehicle. The driver attempted to evade the checkpoint, prompting officers to deflate the vehicle's tyres.” Owoyesigyire narrated
Luke says, upon inspection of the vehicle, two live cows were discovered in the back seat and trunk, securely tied.Luke adds that the suspect in custody has been identified as Mugema Isma, aged 32 and he is currently receiving medical attention at Mulago hospital after he sustained some injuries during the arrest by their security team.
“The incident underscores the persistent issue of cattle theft in various parts of the country. Law enforcement remains dedicated to curbing such crimes, and efforts to apprehend additional suspects involved in this unlawful activity are underway.” Owoyesigyire further stated
He further says, investigations to determine the origin of the two stolen cows are still underway, with some suspicions pointing towards Matuga
He has however, urged the citizens with complaints of any stolen cows to link up with their team at Nateete police station where the case file is currently being investigated.
