RCC Burora Issues Stern Warning Against Opposition’s Planned Road Demonstration Scheduled For Tomorrow

In a move that has sparked tension and concerns among political circles, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Rubaga, Anderson Burora, issued a strong warning to opposition leaders planning a demonstration in Kampala. The opposition leaders revealed their intentions during a joint press conference held at the People’s Government head office on Katonga Road in Kampala.

The demonstration, scheduled for Thursday, January 18, was said to involve planting bananas, trees, and creating fish ponds in the potholes of Kampala roads. The unusual plan, proposed by Kampala’s Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, was intended as a symbolic gesture to draw attention to the city’s infrastructure challenges.

In response to this announcement, Deputy RCC Anderson Buroora expressed his concerns about the potential disruption of an international conference taking place in Uganda. He accused the opposition leaders of attempting to tarnish Uganda’s image on the international stage.

While acknowledging the existing infrastructure challenges in Kampala, Buroora emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to address these issues. He highlighted the considerable construction work being undertaken, with 116 kilometers of roads currently under construction and an additional 70 kilometers pending in the greater Kampala metropolitan area.

Addressing Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s call to plant trees and materials in the city roads, Buroora criticized the proposal, suggesting that instead of organizing demonstrations, leaders should focus on volunteering to improve the city’s infrastructure.

Buroora also cautioned against participating in demonstrations on the day of the international conference, warning that heads of states and other dignitaries would be present. He emphasized the different security protocols in place for such high-profile events and urged participants to reconsider their plans.

The Deputy RCC stressed the importance of such international conferences for the country’s image, tourism, and economic development. He called on participants to prioritize the well-being of the nation over engaging in disruptive activities that could negatively impact the country’s reputation.
