Top Senior Politicians Eulogies Late Hon. Cecilia Ogwal.

Top senior Politicians Eulogies late Hon. Cecilia Ogwal, the Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament, who passed away last week in India.

Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among led Parliament in paying tribute for former Dokolo DWR, Cecilia Atim Ogwal, describing her as an accomplished Member of Parliament who put her country first in all her deeds.

"She spoke eloquently for all Ugandans and not just for the people of Dokolo, or for her political party, it was about Uganda first and the next would follow,” said Speaker Anitah Among.

Prime Minister: Rt. Hon. Robina Nabbanja also thanked President Museveni for the support he accorded Cecilia & her husband when they flew to India for treatment, after the duo fell sick at the same time, and further described Ogwal as a nationalist who loved her country with passion and promoted it at both the local and international forums.

"Although the late Ogwal was an opposition politician, she was a good friend to President Museveni and that is why he always referred to her as his sister. She has been an eloquent legislator who legislated objectively with passion.

She has been a nationalist, who always fronted the country first, above any other political affiliations. She has left a footprint as a patriot in advocating for women rights and girl child," noted Nabbanja.

David Livingstone Zijjan (Butembe County) thanked Cecilia for not shying away from the truth, when she admitted that Basoga men are the most handsome and charming in Uganda.

"She didn’t shy away from telling the truth, no matter what others would think.

While paying tribute to the late Henry Kyemba, Cecilia made an admission that Basoga men are the most handsome and charming in Uganda.

She continues even in her resting to be a beautiful soul, whose beauty has moved the nation from when she was Miss Uganda to date, which beauty could move us the princes of the land. Her beauty has been both internal and external," said Zijjan.

Minister of Justice and constitution affairs- Hon. Nonert  Mao also described Cecilia as a gallant states woman,  who wasn’t only a fun loving lady but also assertive and empathetic in nature and that she was capable of understanding people without judging them-qualities he said enabled the late to live true to the motto of Uganda.

“The spirit in which we are debating is the true spirit in which true kind of person she was. I had a little chat with Miria Matembe and I asked her, what would you say, she said, Cecilia Ogwal was always for God and for Country.

I think nothing summarises the person we are celebrating more than that. She had a loving heart that never tired of giving. She always spoke about what it means to be a woman in politics. That it isn’t fun, in fact she called it a journey of pain.

The fact that you understand, doesn’t mean you have agreed, that is how she was a complex person who was very easy to deal with.” said Mao.

FDC Secretary General- Nandala Mafabi (Budadiri West) narrated how the late Cecilia stopped a group of young MPs in the 7th Parliament from capturing Uganda House, and asked the current Uganda People's Congress (UPC) President, Jimmy Akena to thank Ogwal for saving his Party.

"I want to tell Jimmy Akena that you should thank Elijah Okupa, otherwise, you wouldn’t be a President of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), we would be the ones there.

We wanted to go and capture Uganda House, as young men in the 7th Parliament, we were on the steps to go and capture Uganda House,  mama Cecilia comes from a meeting from Serena Hotel and she looked at us and said, you boys are after something wrong, Okupa came up and said Mama, we are going to capture Uganda House.

And she said please leave, we are going to handle it, that is why you are able to get it there," said Mafabi.

Hon.Abdu Katuntu (Bugweri County) described himself as a product of Cecilia Ogwal and said that although he never set out to be a politician, he was recruited to politics by Ogwal, which is why he holds similar values with the deceased.

“Why don’t we learn from her and do exactly what she was doing? I never set out to be a politician, I was in the comfort zone of a professional, and I was cruising, I didn’t know that I would go into the turbulence of politics. It was Cecilia ogwal, Ben Wacha, Patrick Mwondha who recruited us and the values they inculcated in us are the values you guys are talking about," said Katuntu.
