DP asks gov’t to set up a policy to regulate school fees.

       Ismail Kirya - UYD president

The leadership of democratic party an opposition political party have urged government to introduce a policy which can help regulate the fees structures in both government and privately owned schools in the country.

Speaking today at their party headquarters in Kampala, the president of young democrats Ismail Kirya disclosed that the move would be the only way of ensuring that there is a uniform fees structure in the entire country.

“We are requesting government to introduce a maximum and a minimum fees, let government come up with a fee which nobody can go beyond.” Kirya stated

Kirya says there is no reason as to why a normal private school should charge the parents as much as UGX. 5 million per term as the government watches on.

He adds that such schools should be in position to explain to the responsible institutions as to why they should bill the parents such huge sums of money in this crippled economy rather than explaining to the parents who don’t have any say inregards to school dues.

“the minimal amount will be set according to what the school requires to impact knowledge in these students at the end of the term. Otherwise we are seeing this as a challenge to most of the parents.” He said

He further noted that although most of the powerful private schools are owned by the government officials, something must be done to resolve the issue.

Kirya on the other hand requested the school owners to be very lenient with the parents at this time due to economic situation currently, stressing that if they pay half of the money their children should be allowed to attend the classes as they wait for the other half.
