Humboldt University of Berlin Awards Honorary Doctorate to Dr. Steven Kedi Zuruba for Humanitarian Service.

Humboldt University of Berlin, one of Germany and the world's oldest institutions, recently conferred an honorary doctorate upon Dr. Steven Kedi Zuruba of the Kedi Foundation in Uganda, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to humanity.

The prestigious award ceremony took place at Speke Resort Munyonyo on February 20, 2023, with the university being represented by Dr. Vivian and Dr. Olivia, esteemed scholars in African studies.

Dr. Vivian, in her address, expressed gratitude for Dr. Kedi's remarkable humanitarian efforts, citing the foundation's diligent response to crises such as the Bulambuli landslides and the tragic incident involving a burnt child in Kibuku.

She emphasized that this was the first such honor bestowed upon an individual in Uganda by Humboldt University since its establishment in 1810.

Upon receiving the honorary doctorate, Dr. Steven Kedi Zuruba humbly acknowledged the university's recognition, attributing his success to the grace of the Almighty despite the challenges he faced in his educational journey, having bypassed traditional academic milestones such as diplomas, degrees, or master's degrees.

Dr. Sarah Wasagali Kaanabi, a close associate of Dr. Kedi, lauded the university for its decision and echoed the sentiment that his unwavering dedication to serving humanity warranted such acknowledgment.

Madam Kembabazi Carolina Kamabaare, Assistant Private Secretary to President Yoweri Kagutta Museveni and champion of poverty alleviation, expressed her gratitude for being present at the ceremony.

She commended Dr. Kedi's service to humanity and pledged to advocate for governmental recognition of his efforts, underscoring the importance of official acknowledgment.

In her closing remarks, Madam Kembabazi urged Dr. Kedi to extend his humanitarian endeavors beyond current areas of operation and encouraged continued support for President Museveni's administration, urging Ugandans to rally behind the government in the upcoming 2026 elections.
