UPC congratulates Sarah Aguti, urges members to use Oyam victory as inspiration for Dokolo by-elections.

The Uganda people’s Congress (UPC), an opposition political party has officially disclosed Aguti Sarah Nyangkori as it’s flag bearer ahead of the by-elections for the woman member of parliament for Dokolo District a position that fell vacant upon the death of Hon. Cecilia Ogwal.

This comes after the district delegates’s conference which was held at St. Francis Xavier Vocational School in Dokolo, saw Anna Okwir and Josephine Acen Atia who had earlier shown their interest for the post, withdraw and left Nyangkori unopposed.

Speaking at yesterday’s press conference at the party headquarters in Kampala, Muzeyi Faizo who is the head of media and communications applauded the two members for exercising the maturity spirit in politics by agreeing to step down in favour of Comred Sarah Nyangkori.

UPC's Muzeyi Faizo the head of media

“their act is a true representation of the bigger picture of party which should be emulated. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Dokolo District leadership, all party leaders in lango subregion for managing the process smoothly.” Faizo stated

He also disclosed that UPC always treasured dialogue, constructive engagements and consensus as the first means of handling both internal and external affairs, adding that the degree of unity and focus exhibited in Dokolo and Oyam recently propels the party to a serious issue-based campaign program that is well organised.

He also encouraged the members to stay inspired and guided by what transpired in the july2023 Oyam North by-elections which the party won against all odds.

“Unity, commitment, sacrifice, vigilance and timely strategic planning were very much critical to our victory.” Said Faizo

Faizo also gave the main reason as to why their political party of UPC denied any chance of standing behind an FDC candidate for the Dokolo by-elections.

“we are not going to support any candidate from another party. The candidate belongs to FDC and i have not seen any political party in the past supporting a UPC candidate, so why would they want us to bow down.” Faizo disclosed

In conclusion he called upon all stakeholders to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections during campaigns and elections and wished their candidate Sarah Aguti a landslide victory.
