Lochoto Ambrose, the head of mobilisation for the National Unity Platform in Kaabong district, Karamoja sub-region, has tragically been killed, as announced by the party.
Lochoto, also known as Machete, was reportedly shot dead while returning home after watching the Arsenal match on Saturday night.
David Lewis Rubongoya, the party’s secretary general, disclosed on Sunday morning that Lochoto had faced numerous death threats due to his unwavering character. He stated that according to their team’s report, Lochoto was chased by a patrol vehicle and fatally shot.
“According to our teams on the ground, comrade Lochoto had received numerous threats in the past because of his uncompromising character. They say that he was pursued yesterday by a patrol vehicle as he came back from watching a football match and shot dead at close range,” he said.
Rubongoya praised the deceased as a committed comrade who consistently wore his People Power attire everywhere he went.
“We have lost such a solid comrade, who has always put on his People Power attire everywhere. Very sad he has been murdered in cold blood. Our call for justice in respect of these crimes against humanity must get louder everyday,”he added.
NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, confirmed on Sunday morning that Lochoto was shot dead and his body taken to the mortuary. He mentioned that they were informed the deceased was being accused of being a Turkana warrior killed in an ambush.
“Lochoto Ambrose Machete, the Chairperson of our mobilisation team in Kaabong District, was last evening shot dead by Ugandan security operatives as he returned from watching a football game. Onlookers say Lochoto’s killers pursued and shot him dead at close range, and then delivered his body to the mortuary. We’re told they’re now trying to cover up by suggesting that this comrade was a Turkana warrior whom they killed in an ambush!” Bobi Wine Said.
“While NUP supporters and mobilisers go through incredible problems all over the country, it’s worse in Northern Uganda where RDCs, DISOs, GISOs, DPCs, etc work overtime to instill fear in the entire population. Since the 2021 election, several comrades have been killed in West-Nile, Lango, Acholi and Karamoja. We strongly condemn this cowardly action, and demand for justice for comrade Lochoto!” He Added.
He further lamented that while NUP supporters and mobilisers face significant challenges nationwide, the situation is particularly dire in Northern Uganda.
As of press time, the police had not issued an official statement regarding Lochoto Ambrose’s death.
