Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has responded to Bobi Wine’s suggestion to employ his wife’s sister, Brendah Keijagye, as his Senior Personal Assistant.
Ssenyonyi explained that each Leader of Opposition typically brings their own team, but he had requested Parliament to allow him to retain the team used by his predecessor, Mathias Mpuuga.
However, Parliament declined, citing budget constraints, and their contracts expired in January 2024.
During a press conference at Parliament, Ssenyonyi also addressed the issue of employing Kyagulanyi’s sister-in-law, Brenda. He stated that he needed a personal assistant, but his first nominee was rejected due to legal issues stemming from their arrest in Kalangala.
Despite being qualified, Parliament refused to hire them. Ssenyonyi submitted another name, which was rejected due to perceived political interests. He questioned whether political affiliations were a valid reason for rejection, pointing out that many parliamentarians have political engagements.
Eventually, Brenda was hired as his personal assistant. This isn’t the first time Ssenyonyi has worked with Barbie Kyagulanyi’s sisters.
He previously collaborated with her sister, Bridget Kamahooro, at NTV, where they co-hosted a morning show alongside Simon Kasyate after the 2016 general elections.
