The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) city cleaners verification exercise will commence on Monday, 4th March. The KCCA Executive Director, Dr. Dorothy Kisaka, has said all registered members of the SACCOs involved in city cleaning work will be verified so that they can be paid.
While in a one-on-one with our reporter, Kisaka confirmed that a number was exaggerated compared to what was captured in the system.
"There must be value for money, and the exercise will weed out any illegalities in the system. All workers should be paid and paid on time, but we can't pay those who are not in the system. " - Kisaka.
She further appealed to the city cleaners to remain calm.
"The government is committed to contracting and paying both community SACCOs and 7Hills SACCOs. We only find challenge when politicians politicize everything" - Kisaka said.
Yesterday, the speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among met with Kampala Capital City Authority cleaners who came to Parliament to complain about a myriad of grievances, including termination of their contracts and failure to remit their NSSF for over five months, among others.
She called for a meeting on Tuesday next week with KCCA leaders and area MPs to conclusively resolve the grievances.
