David Lewis Rubongoya, the National Unity Platform’s secretary general, disclosed on Sunday morning that Lochoto had faced numerous death threats due to his unwavering character, adding that according to their team’s report Lochoto was chased by a patrol vehicle and fatally shot.
However responding about the incident today at their weekly security presser in Naguru, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed that the victim was accidentally shot in their intelligence led operation that was carried against the cattle raiders within the vicinity.
Enanga added and said, their security agencies carried out an intelligence led operation targeting armed suspected warriors who had raided cattle. Upon receiving the intelligence, the joint security agencies started laying up ambushes with some of their teams aggressively pursuing the karamojong warriors with an aim of intercepting, disarming and recovering the stolen cattle.
“It was during that aggressive pursuit coupled with the ambushes laid that the victim Lochoto allegedly entered into at around midnight hence being shot.” Enanga stated
He however, said that the matter is still under investigation amidst speculation from some of the political leaders especially from the National Unity Platform.
“Ofcourse some of the opposition members have come out to claim that this was a politically instigated murder which is not the case. We are security forces of this country and we aren’t aligned to politics.” Said the police spokesperson
He added and said that a subsequent investigative report will come up with more details regarding the matter.
Lochoto Ambrose had been the head of mobilisation for the National Unity Platform, an opposition political party in Kaabong district, Karamoja sub-region.
