Women fighting men is misguided, says Abenakyo Joanita.

Renowned Ugandan Medic, and politician Abenakyo Joan has advised fellow women to aspire to support and co-exist with men rather than be in constant confrontation with them.

Abenakyo made the call during a One-on-one with our reporter.

Abenakyo has interests in contesting as Woman Member of Parliament Bugiri District, in 2026.

She further advised women to resist the urge to divorce their husbands, unless their marriages turn violent.

“I don’t want you to say that Abenakyo is preaching the message of rejecting men,”  said. You see me here, I have been married for the past 10 years to one man, and God blessed me with children. In my house, gender imbalance is 100 per cent.- Abenakyo.

She further said that she hates men who are  demeaning and minimizing a girl or a woman.

Asked about women who divorce their husbands, Abenakyo encouraged women to be patient, noting that "...marriage is a long journey with rivers and deserts and many other challenges. What you must do is remain firm and hang onto the positive things about your man, unless he beats you. If he beats you, you run away.”

She also shared tips to corporate women about complementing one another rather than tearing each other down. She also advised against indecent dressing and overreliance on social media.

Women need to realise the difference between what was and what is today,” she said.

This year’s International Women’s Day is being celebrated under the theme; “Inspire inclusion.”
