Namuwenge Mourns Umukuka Emeritus Wamimbi


The National Coordinator for Emyooga program, Ms. Rita Namuwenge, joins thousands of Bamasaba in mourning the passing of Umukuka Emeritus Wilson Wamimbi, a revered figure who left a mark on the cultural and political landscape of Bugisu.

Umukuka Emeritus Wilson Wamimbi's death occurred on April 12, 2024 at Kirudu Hospital in Kawempe-Kampala. 

In an interview with a Bugisu intellectual on Saturday morning, Rita said, "As Bamasaba Wamimbi will be remembered as an elder who was very principled, a noble leader of high integrity and stature, hardworking, loved by Bumasaaba and a unifier among the Bugisu Community."

She said, "Wamimbi leaves a legacy of integrity in Bugisu's history, having served as District Chairman of Greater Mbale, representing Uganda as Ambassador to Canada, the inaugural cultural leader of the Bamasaba among others, the positions he held with dignity and distinction."

Speaking to this publication, she noted that, Wamimbi was very instrumental in stabilizing this current Umukuuka because he wanted unity and development in Masaba land.

She expresses gratitude to President Museveni and the government for granting an official burial for our Umukuka Emeritus.

I urge Bamasaba to love one another this is how we're going to be United as inspired by the example set by our elders like Wamimbi.

The burial rites for Umukuka Emeritus Wilson Wamimbi is set to take place today, Saturday, April 20, 2024, in his ancestral home in Busano, Mbale District.
