Residents of Luwa Town Council in Namisindwa District have submitted a petition to the Office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) and local police, calling for an investigation into the alleged irregularities surrounding the recent recruitment of enumerators and supervisors for upcoming census activities.
Uganda is set to conduct a census starting May 10th.
Wandeka Innocent, a resident of Luwa Town Council, expressed disappointment with the recruitment process, claiming that many of the individuals selected lacked the necessary academic qualifications. Innocent stated that over 10 selected candidates only possessed Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results slips and accused district leaders of selling positions to those with money.
Paul Kigai, another resident, was also troubled by the process, noting that individuals who neither applied nor participated in interviews were included in the final list of successful candidates. He emphasized the need for authorities to prioritize competency over monetary influence and personal relationships.
Moses Masaba Kituyi, an anti-corruption activist from Namisindwa, accused district leadership of favoring friends, relatives, and in-laws over qualified young people. He urged authorities to take action against such practices.
Juliet Solome Namaara, Namisindwa's Deputy Resident District Commissioner, confirmed receipt of the petition and assured residents that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
