KCCA starts paying off City cleaners as the Finance Ministry releases Shs13.69b.


The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has kicked off the payment process to striking City cleaners. 

This was confirmed in a press release which was issued by KCCA on the 11th, June 2024.


Recently, the Finance Ministry released over Shs 13.69bn for the financial year 2023/2024, to pay off all the striking Kampla City cleaners. 

The release of the funds comes after a one month-long strike by the cleaners, who were demanding payments of their salary arrears for more than five months, the city cleaners also complained of non payment of the 

National Social Security Fund (NSSF) remittance benefits, yet to reflect on their Accounts.

According to ED Kisaka, who we contacted on a phone call, over 4,400 City casual workers are set to be paid their arrears, this includes Seven hills cleaning company and other registered SACCOs that were once registered by the five divisions in kampala:- Kawempe, Rubaga, Makindye & Nakawa.
