Mpuuga’s Thanksgiving Mass Tears NUP Into Two, Expose Party Rot.

The thanksgiving mass of the Nyendo-Mukungwe member of Parliament Hon Mathias Mpuuga exhibited that the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) is almost divided into two.

It allegedly has the “Principal (Bobi Wine) faction and Mpuuga faction.”

Despite the fact that the NUP distanced itself from Mpuuga’s thanksgiving event, some party district chairpersons and other members believed to belong to “Mpuuga faction” attended.

Organised at Kitovu Arena in Masaka City on Friday June 20, 2024, the event showed Mpuuga that Abed Bwanika (Kimanya-Kabonera), Joyce Bagala (Mityana district woman MP), and Medard Ssegona are his own buddies in the party among the legislators.

Among other distinguished attendees were Fred Nyenje Kayiira and Andrew Batemyetto, the NUP chairpersons of Bukomansimbi and Masaka districts respectively.

NUP party said that Mpuuga’s Thanksgiving was not worth celebrating, claiming that he is a struggle betrayal who accepted a corruption deal of shs500 billion as a service award fee in Parliament a commissioner.

According to Nyenje, their presence at Kitovu signified loyalty and unity to Mpuuga for his significant achievements and dedication to the community.

“We came to show our appreciation for Mpuuga’s achievements and dedication to our community. We believe in unity and celebrating each other’s successes, regardless of any political differences that may exist,” Nyenje said.

He said they demonstrated a tangible commitment to supporting initiatives that bring tangible benefits to the people they represent.

“We will continue to support initiatives that benefit our people. We are not rebelling against the party; we are simply standing up for what we believe in unity and community,” he stated.

Nyenje clarified that their support to Mpuuga was a recognition of their core beliefs.

Andrew Batemyetto, the district chairperson of Masaka, highlighted the significance of celebrating Mpuuga’s unwavering commitment to the people.

“We need to always celebrate influential leaders. That us why we have joined Mpuuga as an influential like Bobi Wine, Mpuuga, DP Bloc, and FDC, and unite to achieve a common goal,” Batemyetto said adding that everyone is working towards the same objective of effecting a new government.

Batemyetto emphasized that influential leaders should join forces and team up towards a common goal.

Implementing the division, however, NUP supporters yesterday attacked and beaten up Fred Kiyimba, a party councillor representing Ggulu ward, Kitete in Mukono Central Division for attending Mpuuga’s Thanksgiving.

It is important to note that Mpuuga was suspended as the vice president of NUP in the Buganda region earlier in March 2024.
