Police Speaks Out On Deadly Accident That Killed Former Luuka Woman MP Aspirant, Kirunda’s Wife


The police in Luuka are investigating a fatal accident in which a 34-year-old former Luuka woman member of parliament aspirant together with the vice chairman LC II Kirimwa parish died. The duo were travelling in silver grey Isuzu, double cabin Reg no UG4654C which had a head-on collision with a sugarcane-loaded lorry Reg.No. UAU 073G.

The deceased has been identified as Gladys Aliyinza, resident of Lambala village, Irongo parish, Irongo sub-county, Luuka District, and Yusufu Biita of kirimwa, Bukooma Sub-county in Luuka district, along Kamuli-Kaliro road.

Gladys was the wife of the Deputy Press Secretary to the President, Faruk Kirunda.

The incident occurred at Nawansega cell,Nawansega Ward, Bukova Town Council in Luuka District.

Initial findings indicate that today Thursday the 27/06/2024 at around 04:30 the truck Reg no. UAU 073 G loaded with sugarcane from Kaliro side, was sloping and it collided with climbing double cabin Isuzu Reg No. UG 4654C from the opposite direction before overturning several times.

At the point of collision, there is a slight bend that might have contributed to the crash. The impact at the scene of the crash suggests excessive speed to have been the likely cause of the accident.

Biita died on the spot, and attempts to have Aliyinza’s life saved did not yield, as she died on the way to Musana Hospital in Kaliro District.

Upon getting information, traffic police responded to the scene together with the district police commander. The body of Biita Yusufu was conveyed to Kiyunga Health Centre IV for postmortem, while the body of Aliyinza is at Musana Community Hospital.

Police the drivers of both vehicles are on the run. The hunt is on to have them apprehended and further inquiries are ongoing.
