"We need intentional community involvement in building cities"- ED Kisaka as KCCA is represented at the World Cities Summit 2024 in Singapore



Kampala City has been represented at the World Cities Summit 2024in Singapore, where 100 countries are gathered to reflect reimagine and reinvent a future for all. At the summit, Mexico City has been declared the winner of the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize at the prestigious award banquet hosted by His Excellency, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the President of Singapore

The KCCA Executive Director Ms.Dorothy Kisaka represented Kampala City at the summit session of Female leaders leading urban innovations session. She said there needs to be intentional community involvement in building cities, leveraging on existing government policies of devolution and decentralisation to involve the grassroots in building smart resilient cities. 

With approx 3500 participants at the summit, several cities pitched their ongoing innovations to build smart resilient cities, tackling the climate change challenges and other urban issues.

The biennial World Cities Summit (WCS) is a global platform for government leaders and industry experts to address liveable and sustainable city challenges, share integrated urban solutions and forge new partnerships. 

Since 2008, WCS has seen the participation of over 250 cities from around the world, represented by leaders from government, business, international organisations and academia.

The 9th edition of the World Cities Summit will be held in Singapore. This 3-day event comprises the main conference and other key events such as the WCS Mayors Forum, WCS Young Leaders Symposium, the Lee Kuan Yew World Prize Award Ceremony and Banquet, and an exhibition.

The theme for WCS 2024 is Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Rejuvenate, Reinvent, Reimagine.

Truly thriving cities are those which deliver on well-being for all in the city, and across generations. To continue doing so amidst the climactic, financial and societal stresses of our time, cities must continually evolve and adapt.
