Former City RCC, Burora Charged, Remanded for Alleged Hostility Against Speaker Among

Herbert Anderson Burora, a former Rubaga Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner, has been charged and remanded to Luzira prison in Uganda. He was accused of promoting hostility against Speaker of Parliament, Anitah Among.

Burora was arrested from his residence in Kigowa, Ntinda, and detained at Kira Road Police Station before being transferred to Central Police Station in Kampala. Today, he appeared before Buganda Road Court where he faced charges, including degrading the Speaker’s reputation.

Buganda Road Court magistrate Ronald Kayinza read the charges, alleging that Burora used a computer handle “@harderHB” to share information between March and June 2024 that could ridicule and promote hostility against Speaker Anitah Among.

Burora pleaded not guilty, and despite objections from his legal team, led by David Kamukama, he was remanded to Luzira prison until his next court appearance on July 9, 2024. The prosecution requested more time to clarify the charges.

The case has drawn attention amid concerns over freedom of expression in Uganda.
