Bobi Wine Celebrates Law Degree Completion Amidst Challenges and Political Attacks

National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, delivered a heartfelt and reflective graduation speech upon receiving his Bachelor of Laws degree from Cavendish University.

In his speech, Kyagulanyi recounted his journey from his initial law school lectures at the International University of East Africa to his recent achievement.

Kyagulanyi began by acknowledging the support he received from family and friends, including his brother Sylver Kyagulanyi, who had encouraged him to pursue law school, and fellow students and lecturers like Sheriff and David Lewis Rubongoya. He praised Rubongoya for guiding him to transfer to Cavendish University to avoid accreditation issues, a decision that proved pivotal.

He also expressed deep gratitude to his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, whose unwavering encouragement and support were crucial in overcoming numerous challenges throughout his studies.

“There were many times I felt like giving up, but you never allowed me to abandon the mission. Your support showed me that nothing is too hard to achieve,” he said.

Kyagulanyi did not shy away from addressing the obstacles he faced. He described how he was initially prevented from graduating due to missed lectures, which led to an additional semester of coursework.

He also revealed that his graduation was delayed by attempts from detractors to halt his progress, including an extensive investigation by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) into his academic records.

Despite these challenges, Kyagulanyi remained resolute and completed his degree. He reflected on the mixed emotions of the day, particularly the pride he felt knowing his late mother would have been proud. He also extended thanks to his supporters in the ghetto and expressed his faith in God’s guidance through his trials.

Kyagulanyi concluded his speech with a message of inspiration, urging others to pursue their dreams regardless of obstacles. “Let today inspire you to know that you’re never too late to pursue your dreams and achieve them,” he said, underscoring his belief in resilience and determination.
