Empty Namboole as Villa lose to CBE on continental return

  • SC Villa 1-2 CBE

There has been a law turn up at Namboole National stadium, for the SC Villa Vs CRB game today.

Ten-man SC Villa couldn’t make a winning return to continental football suffering a 2-1 home loss to CBE of Ethiopia at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

The Jogoos started slow and conceded against run of play with Simon Peter Oketch beating Jeans Brady Wokorach inside the area.

Patrick Kakande should have drawn the game level before halftime but sent his attempt agonisingly wide after being fed by Isaac Mpagi.

Morley Byekwaso made a triple change introducing Charles Lwanga, Elvis Ngonde and Hakim Kiwanuka for Andrew Otim, Najib Yiga and Tony Atukunda.

But it was the visitors who got on the score sheet in the 55th minute with a good finish after brilliant interplay that ended with Adid Gedey putting the ball in the back of the net.

The second goal silenced the small crowd of around 200 fans who watched the match and until the 69th minute when Ngonde halved the deficit with a shot from outside the area, there was nothing to cheer about.

Kakande was villain again for missing a good chance later on when playing Ngonde looked better placed and at the end, CBE won and will take an advantage into the second leg.

In the end, SC Villa got more issues with Charles Lwanga being sent off for a nasty challenge.

Villa will now need to go to Addis Ababa and win by a 2-goal margin if they are to advance to the next stage.
