Number of MPs set to increase from 529 to 553


On Friday 8th August 2024, the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon.  Robinah Nabbanja revealed that the operaytionalization of; Entebbe, Moroto, Nakasongola, Kabale, Wakiso cities will take place on 1st July 2025, before the 2026 general elections, a move that will see the number of MPs in Parliament increase further, from the current 553 MPs as at March 2024.


Nabbanja made the revelation while responding to a question raised by Michael Kakembo (Entebbe Municipality) during the Prime Minister’s Question Time, during the Tuesday 8th August 2024 plenary sitting.

The number of members of Parliament is currently standing at 529 with the majority being the NRM, which is in Government ruling.
