Here Is Why M7 Abandoned The Bugisu Youth Symposium After A Tip-Off By Intelligence

At the previous Monday's cabinet meeting, president  M7 informed ministers and other stakeholders that he would not make it to the Bugisu Youth Symposium as earlier communicated.

What You Need to Know:

According to our state house inside informer, the President was responding to Minister Florence Nambozo, who had raised a reminder.

Our informer told us that no sooner had Minister Nambozo raised the reminder to the president than he stood up and told Nambozo that the Symposium had a lot of irregularities.

"I don't know if you are aware that the Symposium was set up to fight leaders in power, including yourself; my intelligence has informed me that the Symposium has different goals and agenda, therefore I can't be part of that confusion''- M7 responds to minister Nambozo.

Previously, youths in Bugisu have been accusing Minister Nambozo of failing the event by bad-mouthing it before the president.

In a one-on-one with our reporter, Hon. Minister Nambozo denied all the allegations and clearly explained what transpired in all three stakeholder meetings.

"I held a meeting with the organizing committee at Courts View Hotel as the preparations were ongoing; as a minister, I guided the youths on how to approach the president"- Minister Nambozo.

According to sources, the youths had not yet set the agenda, theme strategy & memo to present to the president.

Minister's key points in her notebook.

Nambozo also advised the youths to have influential Bugisu politicians and motivation to boost the event.

"We need seniors like Hon. Wanyoto Lydia, Hon. Nandala Mafabi, Minister Evelyn Anite, Speaker Among, Minister Balaam Bulugahare etc since this event was not only for NRM"- Minister Nambozo.

She further noted that the youths looked not to be happy with his ideas and opted to take it the way they wished to drive the mobilization.

"I wanted all the youths of Bugisu on board,  all Bagisu from all regions, Manafwa, Sironko, Namisindwa, Bududa, Bulambuli & Mbale, unfortunately, when I consulted on them, they all said that they were not aware of the comparative which they were planning to introduce before the president" - Minister Nambozo

In conclusion, the minister noted that the president is expected to deliver a new date for the Symposium, therefore the youths should remain focused.

Chris Buyela, the Bugisu Region ONC coordinator confirmed to us that the Symposium will take place in October, though the date was not communicated yet.

"Ignore what the opposition, we are the original people who started the Bugisu youth symposium, we've got the blue prints and it was registered by URSB, therefore Opposition is just looking for relevance"- Buyela noted.

The ONC, boss Hajjati Hadijah Namyalo, in a phone call with our reporter noted that president M7 can't be forced, of he postponed the event then he had reasons.

"This is not the only event which had been postponed, the president is always engaged and can change his programs at any time"-Hajjati Namyalo.

Bugisu youths seek to mend relations with Museveni through the symposium:
Bugisu youth leaders have publicly apologized to President Museveni, addressing wider concerns over the perceived marginalization of their region in government appointments.

They admitted that past leaders often saw these roles as personal rewards rather than opportunities for community advocacy, potentially undermining the region’s trust and image and spoiling opportunities for upcoming leaders.

"We are very ready to appologise to the president for the things that our elders have done that have not ogad well with him we are ready to tell the president to forgove this region to restore the glory of Bugisu,"  Bududa District youth councilor Rachael Martha Nabulo said.

This apology comes amidst rising tensions and criticism from across the political divide regarding the underrepresentation of Bugisu leaders in key government roles.

"On various platforms young people and elders are saying the president is not giving us ministries yet he gave us and we miss used them. If the president  entrusts you with a ministry it is not for you as a person but rather on behalf of the whole region. We  have misused those opportunities forgive us ,your excellency ."

They cited the examples of   former Minister for Karamoja Affairs Mary Goretti Kitutu and her junior minister Agnes Nandutu, who were dropped over corruption allegations involving the diversion of iron sheets meant for vulnerable people in Karamoja.

The youth leaders from the six districts and Mbale city that form Bugisu subregion had converged in Mbale City to prepare for the youth symposium in which they expected to host the president on September 12 but it was postponed.

These hope that their apology will pave the way for a more collaborative and effective relationship with the appointing authority.

They believe that acknowledging these past mistakes is a crucial step toward regaining the trust and support of the Bugisu people and ensuring that future appointments will be used to genuinely benefit the region.

This public apology sets the stage for the upcoming meeting with President Museveni next month, where the youth leaders from across the sub-region are expected to discuss these issues further and seek ways to improve the representation and advocacy for Bugisu in the government.

They hope this apology will restore confidence and improve regional representation, with plans to discuss these issues further in a meeting with the President next month.

This move aligns with earlier criticisms from local MPs who lamented the lack of Bugisu representation in recent parliamentary committee appointments and compared it to the more significant ministerial roles the region enjoyed in the 1990s.

This belief has fueled dissatisfaction among the Bagisu community about their peripheral position in government decisions.

The youth leaders hope their apology will restore trust and lead to better representation, with further discussions planned with the President next month.

Bugisu has 24 MPs including 3 opposition members. However, the region Bosts of one cabinet ministerial and one state minister.
