Ruwenzori Bishop Reuben Kisembo urged Tooro King (Omukama) Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV to find a queen (Omugo) during the celebration of the monarch’s 29th coronation anniversary in Fort Portal City on Wednesday.
The call was made during an Anglican service at St. John’s Cathedral, attended by the 32-year-old king and his mother, Best Kemigisa. The bishop commended the queen mother for nurturing Tooro’s 12th ruler, who ascended the throne as a child in 1995. He then encouraged the king to consider getting married, noting that the time was right for him to have a wife.
This is not the first time Bishop Kisembo has made such a suggestion. In 2022, during the king’s 27th coronation anniversary, he made a similar appeal at the traditional commemoration held at the Karuziika Palace.
King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is the reigning monarch of the Tooro Kingdom, a traditional monarchy located in western Uganda. He became king at the tender age of three following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III, in 1995. Oyo is recognized as one of the youngest monarchs in the world to ascend to the throne. Raised under the guidance of his mother, Queen Best Kemigisa, and other royal elders, Oyo has matured into a respected leader, overseeing the cultural and traditional affairs of the Tooro people.
As the 12th ruler of the Tooro Kingdom, Oyo has embraced both tradition and modernity in his leadership, advocating for youth empowerment, education, and development within the kingdom. Despite his youthful rise to power, Oyo has maintained the rich cultural heritage of the Tooro people while engaging in efforts to promote economic and social development. His annual coronation anniversary celebrations are significant events in the kingdom, drawing local and national attention to the monarch’s role and responsibilities.
