Kataka FC and Amus College Clinches Victory in the 2024 KFTV Mbale Super 8 Pre-Season Tournament

The 2024 KFTV Mbale Super 8 Pre-Season Tournament concluded in spectacular fashion as Kataka Football Club, based in Mbale City, claimed victory in the men's football category. 

Kataka FC triumphed over Myda Football Club from Bukedea District in an exciting penalty shootout, winning 4-2 after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

In the women's category, Amus College School's girls' team dominated Sironko Highway, securing a resounding 4-0 victory. Opisa Shaylne netted twice, while Fazila Ikwaput and Wanda Edina each added a goal, securing the championship for Amus College in the match held at Mbale City Stadium.

In his closing remarks, Eastern Regional Football Chairman Issa Musiwa expressed his gratitude to the tournament organizers for their efforts in bringing together teams and evaluating their fitness levels ahead of the upcoming league season. 

He also praised the tournament sponsor, KFTV, for ensuring smooth operations this year, in contrast to previous editions where minor complaints had been raised. 

Musiwa commended the participating teams for maintaining discipline and encouraged players to continue upholding that standard.

Musiwa also made a heartfelt appeal to KFTV to continue supporting sports in the region, emphasizing the importance of nurturing local talent.

KFTV Director Jane Francis echoed these sentiments, highlighting the positive impact the tournament has had in promoting young talent in the region. 

She expressed KFTV's ongoing commitment to youth development through sports and thanked the players for showcasing their skills.

National Coordinator of the Kedi Foundation and KFTV Co-Director, Mr. Muyinda Ali Hamis, announced that KFTV would sponsor the Mbale Super 8 Tournament for the next five years. 

He also revealed that all teams participating in this year's tournament would receive new branded jerseys. 

Kataka FC, the men's champions, were awarded 800,000 Ugandan shillings and the tournament trophy. Runners-up Myda FC received 500,000 shillings, while third-placed Score SC took home 200,000 shillings, and Bugisu United FC was awarded 150,000 shillings.

In the women's category, champions Amus College were awarded 400,000 shillings, with Sironko Highway receiving 200,000 shillings as runners-up. 

Individual accolades for the best goalkeepers, best players, and top scorers were also presented by KFTV.

Mr. Muyinda further announced plans to increase the prize money in the next edition of the KFTV Mbale Super 8 Pre-Season Tournament. 

He also conveyed a message from Dr. Kedi Steven Zuluba, Director of the Kedi Foundation, who congratulated the winners for their outstanding performance and discipline throughout the tournament. 

Although Dr. Kedi could not attend the finals due to international commitments, he assured everyone of his presence at future events.

After receiving the trophy, Kataka FC captain Namaisi Steven and Amus College Shafig expressed their gratitude to the organizers and KFTV management for a well-organized tournament. 

They emphasized that the tournament had not only brought them victory but also provided crucial preparation for the upcoming league season. 

They urged KFTV to continue supporting the tournament to help unearth more talent from the Masaba region.
