Yesterday 6th September, 2024, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) announced that the government will cease providing monetary compensation to individuals affected by road projects.
Instead, those displaced by such projects will be offered alternative housing.
UNRA Executive Director Allen Kagina said the decision aims to address the vulnerability of individuals who receive cash compensation but often end up remaining in poverty due to poor financial decisions and family fights over money given as compensation.
Many people who have got chances of paid by UNRA after road plans claim part of the land have received millions of money however they remain poor like before.
