BUKEDDE JOURNALIST DEO GANYANA BRUTALLY ATTACKED, HOSPITALIZED



Deo Ganyana, a journalist working with Bukedde Newspaper, was viciously assaulted by thugs on  his way home from a night assignment. The incident occurred on Tuesday night on Northen bypass near Kawala flyover

According to eyewitnesses, Ganyana was waylaid by unidentified assailants who beat him mercilessly, leaving him with severe head injuries. The attackers made off with his professional camera, 2 phones, and an undisclosed amount of money.

Ganyana is currently admitted at Brax hospital in Nansana, where his condition is reported to be critical.

Colleagues and family members have condemned the brutal attack, calling for swift action from authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"We are deeply disturbed by this senseless violence against our colleague," said Janan Kisitu of Bukedde Newspaper. "We urge the police to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure Deo receives the necessary support for his recovery."

The Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ-Uganda  has also weighed in, demanding increased protection for media practitioners.

"This attack on Deo Ganyana is a stark reminder of the risks journalists face in their line of duty," said  HRNJ-Uganda president Robert Sempala

 "We stand in solidarity with Deo and his family, and we will continue to advocate for a safe and free environment for journalists."

The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Ganyana's family and colleagues are rallying around him, calling for prayers and support during this difficult time.
