Police in Mbarara City are on the hunt for Doreen Twongyirwe, a lecturer at Bishop Stuart University and resident of Katete Central Cell, who allegedly poured hot water on her 16-year-old maid., Anita Kansiime, after the maid failed to bathe her children on time.

Accoeding to police, the maid is currently receiving treatment at one of the clinics in Katete in Mbarara.

The incident occurred last week, leaving Kansiime, a resident of Kishami in Ruhaama East, Ntungamo district, with severe burns on her chest. She is currently receiving treatment in emergency ward at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. Kansiime, who has worked for Twongyirwe for just one month, revealed that this was not the first time she had faced abuse, pointing to bruises on her arms as evidence of past mistreatment.

Norah Aine, a relative of the victim, has criticized the local police at Ruti Station for allegedly attempting to cover up the case, accusing them of failing to arrest Twongyirwe after allegedly accepting a bribe.

Meanwhile, Robert Kanusu, the Deputy RCC of Mbarara City North, condemned the violence and reported that, according to Mbarara city south Division DPC, the suspect had been arrested, though the  victim’s family disputes this claim
