Police Slap 5 Charges On A Woman Who Slapped Their Traffic Officer


Kampala, Uganda – Mercy Timbitwire, a Ugandan woman who is tending on social media, has been charged with five offenses, including assault and robbery, after allegedly attacking a traffic police constable Makawa Charles while on duty.

The incident happened on October 18, 2024, following an argument with PC Charles Makawa, a traffic police officer attached to Jinja Road Police.

According to police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the incident occurred when police constable Makawa Charles attempted to stop Timbitwire for her involvement in an accident with a Boda Boda rider. Timbitwire refused to stop and continued driving, prompting Officer Charles to follow her.

Upon arriving at UMA Show Grounds, Timbitwire allegedly intimidated Officer Charles, recording him and threatening to “teach him a lesson

“She got violent and hit the officer in what we’ve come out to term as an assault.” Kituuma stated

Kituuma highlighted that the lady went as far as confiscating the officer’s 2 mobile phones and an EPS machine. “We apprehended her. She spent the weekend in a police custody.” He said

Timbitwire has been charged with:

1. Failing to comply with a police officer’s directive

2. Careless driving

3. Driving with expired insurance

4. Assaulting a traffic officer

5. Simple robbery

“The message we want to share with the general public is simple,” said ACP Kituuma Rusoke. “If you have any disagreement with any police officer, laws, or services, there are proper channels to follow.”

Timbitwire is scheduled to appear at Nakawa Court today at 2 pm.
