The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, has contributed 50 million shillings in support of the official opening of the new All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero Kampala.

The speaker made the contribution on Tuesday 29, October, 2024, during her visit where she toured the Church, briefed about the forthcoming functions and addressed the media.

Her site visit this afternoon was in company of Rev Rebecca Nyegenye the Provost of all saints Cathedral who represented the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda His Grace the Most Rev.Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu.

While delivering her speech, Anita commended the church of Uganda over constructing a well-planned All saints cathedral which will help followers to praise God safely, and also applauded all well-wishers, stakeholders and other development partners for their contributions towards the completion of the cathedral. She emphasized the cathedral’s unique design, which features two galleries and a spacious layout without middle columns.

The opening event of this 5,000 seater cathedral is scheduled to take place on 1st November 2024, and will comprise the Ordination of Deacons & priesting plus installation of clergy and lay Canons with a minimum of 3,000 people expected to attend.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is scheduled to be the guest of honor, with Rt. Rev. Alfred Olwa, Bishop of Lango Diocese, delivering the guest sermon.

According to the Chairperson of the organizing committee and former Prime Minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, the event is expected to host around 3,000 attendees, including dignitaries from both within and outside Uganda, and the budget for the inauguration is set at UGX 700 million.

Vivian Igundura, Chairperson of the building committee, reported that the total projected expenditure upon completion is UGX 25 billion, a significant reduction from the initial estimate of UGX 32 billion, achieved without compromising the quality of the construction.

The project to build the new cathedral began previously after a needs assessment highlighting the demand for a larger and more suitable worship space from 400 to now 5000 seater.

The All Saints Cathedral Building Committee (ABC) was established to oversee the development, with significant contributions from former Archbishop Livingston Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo.

Construction officially started in December 2010, and the foundation stone was laid by former Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi in February 2011.
