Gender, Labour and Social Development minister, Betty Amongi has been picked and assigned huge responsibility to ensure success of Ateker Festival, a high profile festival expecting to draw Head of States from East Africa.
Amongi, the chairperson of the organizing committee for the festival scheduled to kick off on 26th November in Soroti City briefed H.E President Yoweri Museveni on the arrangements and progress on Thursday at State House, Entebbe.
Four Heads of States have so far confirmed their presence and among them include Presidents Salva Kirr Mayardit of the Republic of South Sudan, Dr William Ruto of Kenya, Samia Sulu Hassan of Tanzania and Taye Atske Selassie of Ethiopia.
According to available information there will be a beehive of activities on the first day of the festival scheduled to run for four days and among them include, arrival of delegations, elders dialogue, youth and women`s dialogue and tree planting.
Other notable activities on the second day are public assemblies, arrival of invited guests, arrival of President Museveni, tour of exhibition and cultural village, official opening ceremony, cultural night among others.
Uganda was selected to host the 2024 Ateker `Tobongu`u Lore (come back home) cultural festival.
Tobong`u Lore festival always brings together the Ateker community who comprises Karamojong, Iteso of Uganda and Kenya, the Turkana of Kenya, Toposa of South Sudan and the Nyangatom of Ethiopia.
Ateker are a distinct group of people with closely related customs, language, lifestyle and who share a common ancestry.
