Leaders from the Bugisu sub-region convened on Sunday evening and resolved to vigorously mobilize support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s Parish Development Model (PDM) tours.
The President is scheduled to visit the region from Tuesday, December 17, to Friday, December 20, 2024. These visits are part of his ongoing nationwide tours to assess the progress of the PDM program.
Hon. Nambozo Florence, the State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, urged fellow leaders to embrace teamwork and actively participate in mobilization efforts to ensure the success of the President’s tour. She highlighted the unique privilege of hosting the President for four days, unlike other regions that hosted him for only three.
Hon. Nambozo also emphasized the importance of presenting a unified voice by compiling a joint memorandum for the President, instead of the six separate memos initially agreed upon. She expressed gratitude to the President for his continued commitment to the people of Bugisu.
The meeting, attended by LC5 chairpersons, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), District Internal Security Officers (DISOs), Regional Internal Security Officers (RISOs), Resident City Commissioners (RCCs), and Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) from across Bugisu, addressed critical mobilization plans.
Isaac Modoi, the Member of Parliament for Lutseshe County, affirmed the region’s readiness to welcome the President. He noted that pressing issues such as road infrastructure, landslide resettlement, and other urgent concerns should be prioritized during discussions with the President.
According to the tentative program, the President will begin his tour by visiting PDM farmers in Bududa, Manafwa, and Sironko on Tuesday. He will meet Bugisu leaders in Bulambuli on Wednesday, hold a rally in Mbale on Thursday, and conclude with a youth symposium on Friday.
