See Why Mityana Elderly Woman Was Arrested Over Her Saudi Based Daughter’s Anti Government Social Media Posts – Deputy RDC Explains Why She Was Handed Over To Police


Police in Mityana district have in extracted a statement from an elderly woman who is being held to account for her daughter’s social media posts of insisting violence and promoting tribalism in a community over alleged land grabbing.

The suspect who was arrested on the 13th of December, 2024 was identified as Nazziwa Sylvia, a resident of Maanyi sub-county.

She was arrested by Mityana Deputy RDC Prossy Mwanjuzi, who personally went to her home and took her to Maanyi police post.

The suspect who was arrested by the Deputy RDC is Nazziwa Sylvia, a mother to Nalwoga, who is working in Saudi Arabia.

"It is her daughter who landed her in trouble"- Said Deputy RDC Mwanjuzi in a one-on-one with our journalist.

Mwanjuzi further noted that upon arrival at Mityana Police station, she recorded a statement and was released on a police bond. 

Nalwoga has reportedly been sharing anti-government messages on social media.

According to evidence gathered by intelligence, Nalwoga went to her social media accoutnts and called upon Mityana residents to kill all westerners in the community.

According to Nalwoga, she alleged that Westerners, specifically Banyakole are land grabbers.

"Her messages attacked key people in the government including the Minister of Lands, Hon Judith Nabakooba who hails from Mityana, and First Daughter Natasha Karugire"- Deputy RDC 

During her arrest, Nazziwa said she was unaware of her daughter’s messages, saying, “I did not know anything about the posts until yesterday.”

She also denied knowledge of a village WhatsApp group where her daughter’s messages were being spread.

Prossy Mwanjuzi, the deputy DRC said the arrest was to serve as a warning to other Ugandans abroad who post lewd comments about Ugandan leaders thinking that they cannot be held accountable.

“If you think you are going to base in the Middle East to insult our leaders, you must know that if we choose to go after you we shall go after you.”

After the arrest of her mother, Nalwoga apologised via socia media, noting that her comments were out of anger.
