Rtn. PHF Mabonga David has been honored with the Vocational Services Award by the Rotary Club of Mbale City, District 9213, in recognition of his exceptional contributions, particularly in initiating and implementing impactful community projects.
Among the key projects spearheaded by Mabonga in the region are:
1. Educational Support – Successfully applied for and imported four 40-foot containers of donated educational materials from the USA to Mbale, distributing them freely to universities, medical colleges, high schools, primary, and pre-primary schools. The materials include classic textbooks and solar reading lamps. Additional consignments from the USA and UK are expected soon.
2. Water Infrastructure – Led the development of:
• Mafutu-Namunyu Piped Water Project (1.6 km) in Bumbobi Sub-county.
• Nashikhaso-Khamoto Piped Water Project (11.2 km) in Bungokho Sub-county.
3. Scholarship Initiatives –
• Secured FAWE (U) scholarships for bright but needy girls, who are now serving as health officers.
• Facilitated a scholarship for a student from Nauyo to study at Nabumali High School through Global Village Connect (USA & Uganda).
4. International Partnerships – Applied for and secured a PUM-Netherlands expert to support a follow-up project in the region.
5. Bugusege Water Project – Successfully secured a $130,000 Global Grant from Rotary International, with implementation set to begin next month.
6. Child Education Support – Obtained funding from Comic Relief and Global March Against Child Labour through the National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU), implemented by YMCA Mbale Branch. The initiative supported 700 children with tuition, uniforms, meals, and scholastic materials in five primary schools in Bungokho: Khamoto, Bushikori, Bubirabi, Bumageni, and Namatsale.
7. Agricultural Support – Assisted 44 farmers in Bungokho with essential farming inputs.
8. Rotary Membership & Health Projects –
• Led a Rotary membership drive to strengthen community engagement.
• Mobilized fellow Rotarians to support the construction and equipping of the Bunapongo Health Centre III Maternity Ward.
9. Alumni Engagement – Actively participates in initiatives to restore Nabumali High School’s former glory through alumni efforts.
Beyond these initiatives, Mabonga remains actively involved in various community projects aimed at improving livelihoods and fostering sustainable development.
