Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Chairman of the Bugisu Cooperative Union, has urged leaders and key stakeholders in Bugisu to prioritize unity as a cornerstone for the region's development.
Nandala made this appeal during the burial of Captain Bill Israel Munyifu, a former pilot in the Office of the President and son of former Mbale Municipal Mayor, Richard Kanindo Masaba. The ceremony took place on Saturday afternoon in Bulambuli District.
Nandala, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Budadiri West, expressed concern over the persistent disunity in the region, which he attributed to leaders. He called on senior leaders from Bugisu to lead efforts in fostering unity among the local population, emphasizing that development can only be achieved when trivial differences are set aside. "Other regions are progressing because they focus on development and overlook minor issues. We must learn from them," he stated.
Mike Mukula, the NRM Vice Chairman for the Eastern Region, praised the late Munyifu as a dedicated cadre of the NRM, describing him as honest, punctual, and intelligent. He encouraged young people to emulate the late pilot's exemplary qualities.
Born in 1987, Munyifu was circumcised in 1996 and pursued his education at Kyambogo University, the East African Civil Aviation Academy in Soroti, Sunrise Aviation in Florida, and Pilot Training Johannesburg, among other institutions. He passed away from high blood pressure on December 27, 2024.
