The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party is set to commence the final phase of its Membership Register Update Exercise tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29th, 2025. The exercise, which will run until February 1st, 2025, aims to streamline and verify the party's membership records across Uganda.

Ambassador Hon. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, the NRM National Treasurer, is at the helm of this significant undertaking. She is coordinating the exercise across all 72,000 villages in the country, ensuring that every NRM member has the opportunity to either register or update their details.

Importance of the Exercise

The update of the membership register is a crucial step in the NRM’s efforts to maintain an accurate and inclusive record of its members. This process will not only facilitate better communication and engagement with members but also prepare the party for upcoming internal elections and national polls.

The exercise will allow party members to confirm their membership, update personal information, and ensure their details are correctly captured in the database. It also provides an opportunity for new members to join the party, reinforcing its grassroots presence and inclusivity.

Hon. Barbara Nekesa Oundo's Leadership

Ambassador Hon. Barbara Nekesa Oundo has been instrumental in ensuring the success of this nationwide initiative. Her leadership and coordination efforts reflect the NRM's commitment to its members and organizational efficiency. Speaking ahead of the exercise, Hon. Oundo emphasized the importance of active participation from all party members:

“The NRM is a party for all Ugandans, and this exercise is a demonstration of our commitment to inclusivity and unity. I encourage all members to visit their respective branches or villages to register or update their details. This is not just about numbers; it is about building a stronger and more connected party that truly represents the people.”

Hon. Nekesa has worked closely with party leaders at the district, sub-county, and village levels to ensure a seamless exercise. She has also engaged party structures and mobilization teams to sensitize the public about the importance of this update.

Nationwide Coordination

The exercise is expected to reach all corners of the country, thanks to the extensive network of the NRM. Village-based coordinators have been trained to facilitate the process, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in data collection. The exercise will be conducted at designated registration points within villages, making it accessible to all members.

NRM members are encouraged to carry their identification documents, such as National IDs, to aid in the registration or update process. For those without formal identification, local leaders have been empowered to verify and confirm membership details.

Strengthening the NRM Base

As Uganda gears up for the 2025/2026 General Elections, this exercise is a vital step in strengthening the NRM’s grassroots structures. By updating its membership register, the party is reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles and enhancing its ability to engage with supporters effectively.

The exercise is also a testament to the NRM’s vision of being a people-centered party that prioritizes transparency and accountability. The updated register will serve as a foundation for future planning and decision-making within the party.

The NRM leadership is calling upon all its members to take an active role in this exercise. Party members are urged to visit their respective branches or villages during the exercise period to ensure their details are captured. This effort requires collective participation to ensure its success.

The leadership of Ambassador Hon. Barbara Nekesa Oundo in coordinating this nationwide exercise underscores the NRM’s dedication to its members and its vision for a united and prosperous Uganda. The successful update of the membership register will further solidify the party’s position as a grassroots-driven movement committed to the aspirations of the people.
