Sironko Engineer Fails to Account For over Shs1 Billion Road Fund, Nandala Grills him

The Sironko District Engineer, Andrew Wasukila  is facing scrutiny following allegations of mismanaging funds through ghost projects that were neither implemented nor accounted for. This revelation has left leaders and residents shocked.

This followed the discovery that all Sironko district roads budgeted for construction and rehabilitation in the last financial years have 55 remained untouched despite the government disbursing of Shs1 billion for the intended roads.

The Budadiri West constituency MP in Sironko district Nathan Nandala – Mafabi , who led district leadership yesterday Wednesday and today Thursday, 9th January, 2025  in the field to find out why road projects are poor says the money under roads is not well spent.

Nandala revealed that only two roads have been constructed in the constituency since the 2021-2024 financial years, while the rest remain in disrepair.

In Bukhulo sub-county, Mafabi noted that no district roads have been worked on despite funds being allocated.

He highlighted releases of UGX 3 million in the 2021-2022 third and fourth quarters, UGX 3 million in the 2022-2023 second, third, and fourth quarters, and UGX 2 million in 2023-2024.

“We fight to secure funds for them, but they misuse the money instead of doing the work. People believe we don’t provide services,” Mafabi lamented.

He added that district leaders are working with the RDC, DPC, and DISO to hold responsible individuals accountable. “Those who took the money must refund it or face arrest,” he warned.

“Residents are grappling with the consequences of the neglected roads, including losses for businesses and farmers struggling to transport goods to market. Pregnant women also face challenges accessing health facilities due to poor infrastructure.” Nandala noted.

In an interview with our reporter, David Livingstone Giruli the LCV chairperson of Sironko District, admitted to challenges in the engineering department, citing a lack of value for money.

Eveline Nafuna, Woman Councillor for Kama Town Council-Busamaga Sub-county, decried the suffering of residents due to poor roads. Kadde Robert, District Councillor for Bugusege Town Council, called for action against the technocrats responsible for the failed projects.
